Montagneuse River
The file history for this site was reviewed and a 2004 assessment report indicated that a replacement culvert would be impractical due to the potential for future streambed degradation. MPA inspected the active degradation potential at the crossing and at nearby sites. Upon review of the streambed, it appeared that the active degradation had stabilized, allowing a culvert to be a viable replacement option. By providing an SPCSP culvert as a replacement option opposed to a three span bridge, resulted in considerable cost savings to be achieved.
MPA tailored the culvert design to provide additional burial. By doing so, the highway gradeline was maintained and allowance was provided for any potential future channel degradation.
