After Replacement

Before Replacement

MPA reviewed several options to ensure the most cost effective replacement structure was selected. Given the high traffic volumes at this site options to minimize traffic disruptions, and eliminate the need for a costly on-site detour were reviewed and implemented. MPA prepared a design that maintained flow through the existing culvert by installing a culvert liner and increased the overall hydraulic capacity of the crossing by installing two additional welded steel pipes using the trenchless methods.

Unexpected soft material and infiltrating water was encountered at the design invert elevations of the WSP culverts. MPA worked with the Contractor and Alberta Transportation to come up with a plan to ensure the augered pipes were installed in suitable material. This involved the installation of perforated pipes and raising the inverts of the WSP culverts by 400 mm.

Roles and Responsibilities: Design, Tender Preparation, Construction Supervision, Post Construction.
